A few weeks ago, modmore released the first pre-release of the new Redactor 3 for MODX. Today it has been marked as stable. This new major release comes with a refreshed interface and cool new features to help make writing and editing content a breeze.

One of the highlights of Redactor 3 is the new configurator. As there are a lot of configuration options, the old approach of system settings didn't really make for a pleasant experience. While not everyone has the need to heavily customise the editor, for those that do want to make it fit the level of flexibility they offer their clients, the configurator is a breath of fresh air.

All options are now offered in a logically tabbed interface, and all changes are immediately shown in the live preview on the right. Even switching themes and choosing the different media browsers apply right away.

Another amazing feature in Redactor 3 is its flexible uses. Of course you can use it for the resource content, but Redactor also supports:

  • Template Variables
  • ContentBlocks & Fred
  • MIGX
  • the resource introtext
  • and many third party extras

In most cases you can also choose which of your configuration sets to use. So you could use a full featured editor for the content, a more minimal toolbar in the introtext or a ContentBlocks input field, and air mode for Fred. The extensive documentation explains how.

And, to make it look the way you like to, there is a selection of themes to pick from. Dark mode included!

There's a lot more to Redactor that we're not going to cover here today, but you can learn more about Redactor at modmore, such as the supported media browsers, text toolbar, image management, and more.
